DF Studio began using Amazon Web Services in 2011. At that time, 64-bit wasn’t well-supported. 64-bit AMI’s couldn’t be used with m1.small and c1.medium instances. We chose to use Ubuntu (Oneric, 32 bit). In the spring of the following year, 2012, Amazon announced “64-bit Ubiquity” supporting 64-bit operating systems on all instance types. The writing was on the wall for our 32-bit image but we had already invested a lot of work into getting it setup the way we wanted. We chose to ignore it for a while since things were working fine.
