Summary
The highlight feature added in the release moved Collections from their isolated, non-searchable area into the main Library view. By incorporating Folders, Projects and Collections into the Library view, we have turned a corner on more intuitive navigation and organization. This feature work has prompted a slew of interface tweaks and changes that allow the user to be more instantly familiar with the system navigation. The workflow possibilities and enhancements now that Collection are available right in line with Folders and Projects will have a huge impact on organizations. We recommend evaluating what these enhancements will mean for all users and workflows.
Along with all of the navigation enhancements, we introduced a brand new Bookmarks feature set, giving the users an ability to save a permanent list of bookmarked Folders, Projects, Collections, Images, Messengers and Web Portfolios. This is another major step in streamlining users access to their most used sets of images.
There were many bug fixes and UI improvements in the release, as well as some new workflow features added.
Enhancements
- Collections in folders (new Library view)
All collections were originally housed in one section of the application and were reachable only by clicking on the Collections link in the navigation bar. Collections have now been incorporated into the root directory of the Library, and users can place them to folders. This allows users to create new collections made of various sources and save them into the same folder where the source projects reside. This workflow will become increasingly useful for those who must submit photos from several projects for approvals.
- When switching from 1-up or compare views to thumbnail or list view, scroll to image
When a thumbnail image is double clicked to reveal 1-Up View, often the next step is to page through several single view images before returning to thumbnail view. A new fading animation provides clear visual reference to the last photo viewed in the 1-Up View before switching back to thumbnails view.
- Add gear menu to library (and projects) footer for column display settings
This function brings the ability to arrange column displays directly into the column interface.
- Bookmarks feature
A brand new feature in DF Studio, the Bookmarks menu of the navigator bar allows users to save a link to any item in the application for quick navigation. Users can click the bookmark links (located either in the menu bar or the inspector section) of images, projects, collections, folders, messengers and portfolios to save them into the Bookmarks menu.
- Messenger Auto-Warming feature
- Nav Path in Library using tipped library for path elements
- Activity page: default to last-used filter
- Activity page: add user filter
- Activity page: filter to project
