The Custom option in the Messenger Download Only template now provides an option for whether to strip or preserve metadata. When preserving metadata (the default option), images will contain all of the original metadata plus any metadata that’s been added or updated in DF Studio (i.e. the editable fields that appear on the Edit Metadata screen: Keywords, Caption, etc.)
A followup release will extend this behavior, so that fullsize previews (1:1 jpeg) and non-raw originals are also kept updated with this information as well.
New Downloader App
Updates in this release allow the download screens to use a new desktop version of the DF Studio Downloader (formerly a java web start application). The goal of this new application is to try to simplify the download process. Recent changes to OS X have made java web start much more difficult to use, due to increased security restrictions.
Once the application is installed on the desktop, the download link can be clicked in the web interface and the application will launch automatically. The new application is available for OS X (10.8+), Windows (7+) and Linux. A link to the older jnlp (java web start) version is still available in the Messenger UI for those who can’t install or run the new version.
